The once, and briefly, famous Leogan Castle Gardens sit some 2 miles distant from the seat of power. The Castle is sited on a small rocky promentary, unsuitable for the creation of formal gardens. The Countess Stobeswod was determined to create a garden second to none. and in 1798 work commenced. 14 farms were enclosed and their stone and resources used to create some of the most spectacular formal gardens of the time. Sadly, unruly locals saw things in a different light and in 1803, 6 days after the formal opening, the gardens were levelled. It was assumed they could never be re-created.

Initial resistance to the proposal to restore the gardens was tackled with a careful mix of local diplomacy, tagetted investment and clear intent. However the subsequent reformation of the Leogan Militia has ensured that the message has been clearly understood at all levels in the community.
